Alice J Lee 이정연 is a second-generation Korean American, graphic designer, researcher, and educator. She researches alphabetic systems, concepts of interconnectedness, and the impacts of cultural imperialism. As a graphic designer, she experiments with the Korean and English alphabets to express in-between cultural experiences to increase inclusivity in our communication systems. She has exhibited bodies of multi-media work and interactive installations at Auburn University, the Franklin in Chicago, University of Tulsa, and other galleries, and presented her research on the Korean Alphabet and the development of the Korean typewriter at international conferences, including TypeCon and CAA (the College Art Association), and other venues that include the Sejong Institute, Notre Dame University, and the University of Houston. Additionally, her practice includes facilitating workshops, engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations, commissions with cultural institutions, and developing and sustaining an independent publishing imprint, Dual Press, with a mission to amplify underrepresented voices.
She serves as Endowed Associate Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
